钟山职业技术学院是全国第一所职业院校。成立于1952年，是一所以工业技术为主，兼有农、商、医、文及体育等多种办学形式的大型多科性职业院校。学院占地面积近200亩，校舍建筑面积3.8万平方米，图书馆藏书30余万册。
目前，学院开设有21个本科专业，近50个大中专技能培训班和各类成人教育课程。其中，9个本科专业是省“双一流”建设高水平特色专业；2个本科专业是省“卓越工程师教育培养计划”重点培养专业；1个本科专业是省“卓越法律人才教育培养计划”重点培养专业。
学院目前有师资力量近600人，其中教授57人、副教授142人、正高级工程师12人。学院还聘请了一批来自国内外名牌企事业单位的名师作客座教授或特邀教授。
学院注重理论融会实践，加强师资培养。学院通过引进国内外优秀师资、实施“双师型”教师培养模式、加强师资海外交流合作、实施“三步一衔接”课程体系、创新课堂教学方法、实施就地取材教学模式、开发应用型人才培养方案、实施就地就行实习实训体制、开发应用性能力考核体制以及通过优化课外教学来促进理论能力的提升。目前，学院已形成了以工厂+企事业单位+校企合作+校外实习+就地取材+应用性考核的一体化课外教学体制。
通过不断创新办学理念，不断优化办学方法，不断完善办学条件，不断壮大办学实力，使得钟山职业技术学院成为一所具有较强办学能力、较强师资队伍、较强办学设施、较强办学环境的综合性大型多科性职业院校。
